A house, a home, a dwelling, habitation, a room, a building; a family, dynasty; a hole, nest, den, sty; a case, a place (for razor, knife, &c.); native place or land; source, fountain; a compartment of any figure, box or drawer; a square place in which chess or chaupaṭ is divided:—ghar áuṉá, v. n. To come into the house:—ghar banáuṉá, v. a. lit. To build a house; to manage a house well:—ghar bár, ghar gháṭ, s. m. A family; household goods; a house and premises, a dwelling-place:—ghar báraṉ, ghar bárí, s. f. m. A householder, a family person, husband and wife:—gharoṇ bároṇ or gharoṇ gháṭoṇ jáṉá, v. n. To become houseless:—sháh de kábú áe gharoṇ gháṭoṇ jáe. One, who falls into the clutches of a money-lender, becomes homeless:—ghar barbád hoṉá, v. n. To be ruined, (a house or family):—ghar barbád karná, v. a. To bring down or reduce a house or family:—ghar baiṭhe hoṉá or baiṭhṉá, v. n. lit. To sit at home; to sit idle at home, to be unemployed:—ghar bhar deṉá or bharṉá, v. a. To fill (a house), to bring wealth into the house from another place:—ghar dá, a. Of the house, belonging to the house; one's own:—ghar dá ádmí, s. m. A member of the household:—ghar dá bánná banáuṉá, bannhṉá or bánhṉú bannhṉá, v. n. To inhabit a house; to have a wife; to manage a house or property well:—ghar dá bhetí, s. m. One who knows the ins and outs of a house; a confidant:—ghar dá búhá dúe banne or pásse láuṉá, v. n. a. lit. To pull down the door of a house or place to another side; to ruin a house; to squander money:—ghar dá dhaṇdá, s. m. Household work; domestic affairs:—ghar dá náṇ ḍobṉá, v. a. To bring disgrace on one's family:—ghar dá náṇ ḍubb jáṉá, v. n. To be brought disgrace on one's family:—ghar de log, s. f. The family, the wife:—ghar dí akal, s. f. One's own sense:—ghar dí gall, s. f. An easy matter or task:—ghar dí jugat, s. f. Household economy:—ghar dí jugat bannhṉí, v. n. To introduce economy in a house, to manage a house economically:—ghar dí jugat Kashmír dí khaṭṭí. Household economy brings an income like that of Kashmir:—ghar dí khetí, s. f. One's own field or property:—gharoṇ deṉá, v. a. To give out of one's pocket:—ghar gálṉá, v. n. See ghar barbáad karná:—ghar ghar phirṉá, v. n. To wander from house to house:—ghar jamm, a. A house-born (spoken of lower animals):—ghar karná, v. a. To occupy, to dwell in; to have a family: to get a wife or husband:—naghará, s. m. f. A houseless person, one who has no fixed abode:—ghar paiṉá or waṛṉá, v. n. To be kept in a man's house (as a mistress), to become a kept-mistress:—ghar páuṉá, pá laiṉá, wáṛṉá, v. a. To keep a woman (as a mistress):—ghar phaṭáuṉá, v. a. To cause to bring disunion among the members of a family:—ghar phaṭ jáṉá, phaṭṉá, v. a. To disunite or separate spoken of the members of a family:—ghar phúk tamáshá wekhṉá, v. n. lit. To set one's house on fire and look on at the sport; to waste one's property in idle pleasures—ghar puṭṭṉá, puṭṭ saṭṭṉá, v. a. To fall down a house, to ruin a house, to foment quarrel among the members, of a family:—rel ghar, s. m. A Railway Station:—ghar ujáṛ deṉá saṭṭṉá, ujáṛṉá, v. a. See ghar wagáṛṉá:—ghar ujjaṛṉá, v. n. To be ruined a house, to die (a wife):—gharwálá, s. m. The master of the house; the husband:—gharwálí, s. f. The mistress of the house, the wife:—ghar wáṇgúṇ baiṭhṉá, v. n. To sit at one's ease:—ghar wasáuṉá, v. n. To take a wife, to marry. See abád karná:—ghar wigáṛṉá, wagáṛṉá, wagáṛ saṭṭṉá, v. a. To bring ruin on a house, to be a cause of creating disunion among the members of a family; to squander the property of one's house:—ghar wigaṛ jáṉá, wigaṛṉá, v. n. To be ruined (a house); to die, (a wife or husband, or any other worthy member of a family):—ghar dí addhí báhar dí sárí náloṇ changgí hai. Better one-half at home than the whole abroad:—ghar dáne nahiṇ ammáṇ píhaṉ gaí. No grain in the house and the mother going to grind.—Prov. used of a vain boaster.
