s. m. (M.), ) A variety of rice:—shakar dáná, s. m. A large shrub (Colebrookia oppositifolia, Nat. Ord. Labiatæ) which occurs in the Siwalik tract and in the Salt Range. Gunpowder charcoal is made from it, and its leaves are applied to wounds and bruises:—shakar kaṇd, shakar kaṇdí, s. f. A sweet potato (Batatas, edulis, Nat. Ord. Convolvulaceæ) commonly cultivated in the cold weather. The root is largely eaten as a vegetable:—shakar ul ashar, shakar ul tighál, s. m. See Akk.
